"Something about me" Presentation
Salut! Pretty soon it's February and the class has been working steadily since the Holidays! The students have decorated their "snow-people" and have anonymously described some of the snowmen's features so their classmates could guess who's who. It was a great activity for practising thinking, creativity, drawing, writing, speaking and listening. We had fun! Look at their writing and drawings!
Presentation
Dear Parents, the following is the Success Criteria that has been reviewed with the students so they know what will be expected of them for their oral presentation. Each student has been given an approximate date on which he/she will be asked to speak in French about an important annual family celebration. This video is an example. Please review the video and the following success criteria:
~I can tell how my family celebrates a special day every year.
~I can explain it in French in a clear, strong voice.
~I can say why the celebration is important.
~I can show a picture or a representation of the celebration.
Here is a sample of a brief family celebration presentation the students will be asked to do. The students will present an annual celebration that the family enjoys; e.g.: a special birthday, Diwali, Eid, Hanukkah, Christmas, etc. Elements of the presentation should include French vocabulary having to do with the special day, the customs, the reason for the celebration or its significance. Words like: célébration, famille, amis, cadeaux, décorations, nourriture, chaque année, jeux, sports, voyage, may be used. In the sample below, the person presents Christmas as a celebration that involves the gathering of family and friends and the exchange of gifts. It speaks also of reflection, decorating and good food. Please try the video as a sample.
The class read a funny story this week about a clown who can dance on his hands, his nose, and his head, but the funniest part is when he falls. Each student was given a plate to draw their favorite part of the story. Everyone shared their illustration with a partner and then shared with the whole class. We invited the vice-principal to hear us and she was very impressed with the way the students have progressed in their ability to speak French! Way to go, Class!
